2002 Rookie Draft Class

Defensive Backs
Name
MSHPINT%
Quentin Jammer
Texas
56565050
63635625
69696310
50504415
Outlook: Jammer is a physical cornerback who also possesses good speed. He is prone to getting called for pass interference penalties due to his physical play. If he can get that tendency under control--look out. This kid could be a star. Otherwise, he'll be an average starting corner in the WTF.
Tecmo comparison: James Washington
Name
MSHPINT%
Phillip Buchanon
Miami (Fla.)
50385060
56445615
6350635
44314420
Outlook: Buchanon has some upside but isn't expected to be more than a 4th DB. If he reaches his considerable upside he could be a nice value pick for some team.
Tecmo comparison: Maurice Hurst
Name
MSHPINT%
Lito Sheppard
Florida
56385670
63446315
50315015
Outlook: Sheppard is the cousin of wide receiver Jabar Gaffney and is the more talented of the two. Sheppard has Pro Bowl potential. If there's one knock on his game, it's that he lacks physicality at the line of scrimmage. But there's no doubt that he can be a star, in the mold of former WTF Bengal Everson Walls.
Tecmo comparison: Everson Walls
Name
MSHPINT%
Mike Rumph
Miami (Fla.)
44633860
50694420
38563120
Outlook: Rumph is a poor man-on-man defender who specializes in making big hits. He was one of the more silent heroes during the Miami Hurricanes' National Championship run in 2001.
Tecmo comparison: Nesby Glasgow
Name
MSHPINT%
Sheldon Brown
South Carolina
50635670
56696320
44565010
Outlook: Brown is a big hitter who also excels at getting interceptions.
Tecmo comparison: Carnell Lake
Name
MSHPINT%
Travis Fisher
Central Florida
50384460
56445015
44313825
Outlook: Fisher is a little below average as a defensive back but could still hang around the WTF for a few seasons as a practice squad player.
Tecmo comparison: Ray Horton
Name
MSHPINT%
Andre Goodman
South Carolina
50505070
56565620
44444410
Outlook: A teammate of Sheldon Brown at South Carolina, Goodman possesses a similar skill set but is a little bit more injury prone. It may take some time for Goodman to find his stride but he could be a decent starter for many WTF teams.
Tecmo comparison: Louis Oliver
Name
MSHPINT%
Dante Wesley
Arkansas-Pine Bluff
38502560
44563130
31441910
Outlook: Wesley doesn't have what it takes to be a starter in the WTF. Pass.
Tecmo comparison: Mike Prior
Name
MSHPINT%
Pete Hunter
Virginia Union
44383870
50444415
38313115
Outlook: Hunter doesn't impress much with his physical attributes and his small-school credentials leave a bit to be desired. He'll be on the outside looking in when rosters are posted for 2002.
Tecmo comparison: Eugene Daniel
Name
MSHPINT%
DeMarcus Faggins
Kansas State
50314460
56385015
44253825
Outlook: Faggins has a pretty queer name in addition to being a below-average defensive back.
Tecmo comparison: Cedric Mack
Name
MSHPINT%
Roy Williams
Oklahoma
63695660
69756310
56635030
Outlook: Williams has all the skills you want in a defensive back. He's fast, can hit extremely hard, and has a nose for the football. If he stays healthy he could be one of the league's premier players.
Tecmo comparison: David Fulcher-lite
Name
MSHPINT%
Ed Reed
Miami (Fla.)
69447570
75508110
63386920
Outlook: Put this guy in the WTF Hall of Fame right now. He WILL be a star for whatever team drafts him. Reed is the best interceptor the league has seen since Mark Carrier as he has an uncanny ability to read the quarterback's eyes and get a jump on the football. If there's a knock on Reed's game, he isn't a tremendous tackler and is hence not a stalwart run defender. Reed is one of the surest bets for stardom since the inception of the league.
Tecmo comparison: Mark Carrier
Name
MSHPINT%
Lamont Thompson
Washington State
44564470
50635015
38503815
Outlook: Thompson is a hard hitter with decent peripherals who could be decent if given the opportunity.
Tecmo comparison: Mike Harden
Name
MSHPINT%
Tank Williams
Stanford
44503860
50564415
56635010
38443115
Outlook: A first-team All-American at Stanford, Williams will struggle to adapt to the pro game.
Tecmo comparison: J.B. Brown
Name
MSHPINT%
Jon McGraw
Kansas State
44313160
50383820
38252520
Outlook: Out of necessity, McGraw could find his way onto a practice squad for 2002, but isn't likely to make much more of a splash in the WTF than that.
Tecmo comparison: Tyrone Braxton
Name
MSHPINT%
Michael Lewis
Colorado
50635070
56695610
44564420
Outlook: Lewis has Pro Bowl potential after coming off a great career at Colorado, where he was named an All Big 12 performer and a 3rd team All-American safety. He doesn't possess tremendous speed or great hands but he'll find a starting job somewhere in the WTF.
Tecmo comparison: Jarvis Williams
Name
MSHPINT%
Chris Hope
Florida State
56565060
63635615
50504425
Outlook: Hope excels in all facets of the game and could indeed be a first-round draft pick due to his all-around quality play at safety.
Tecmo comparison: Carnell Lake
Name
MSHPINT%
Coy Wire
Stanford
44564460
50635030
38503810
Outlook: Wire is the rare Asian-American player to find his way into the WTF draft. He has good size and hits well for a safety. More than likely a backup, he could work his way into a starting job before long.
Tecmo comparison: Eugene Robinson
Name
MSHPINT%
Jermaine Phillips
Georgia
38563860
44634420
31503120
Outlook: Too big for a safety, too small for a linebacker, Phillips is a man without a true position which will likely leave him on the outside looking in when rosters are posted for 2002.
Tecmo comparison: Kirby Jackson
Name
MSHPINT%
Omare Lowe
Washington
38383870
44444415
31313115
Outlook: Lowe has the tenacity to stick around the league for awhile, but he's simply not very good.
Tecmo comparison: Mike Prior
Name
MSHPINT%
Marquand Manuel
Florida
44502560
50563125
38441915
Outlook: Manuel is pretty much a linebacker who lines up in the defensive backfield. He isn't going to do well against the pass, but can do a decent job guarding the run.
Tecmo comparison: Nesby Glasgow
Name
MSHPINT%
Chad Williams
Southern Mississippi
38445060
44505620
31384420
Outlook: Williams is a playmaker who unfortunately isn't fast enough to make a large number of said plays.
Tecmo comparison: Jay Taylor
Name
MSHPINT%
Will Demps
San Diego State
44633860
50694425
38563115
Outlook: Demps can hit with the best of 'em but that is pretty much all he has. Worth a late-round gamble.
Tecmo comparison: Darrell Fullington
Name
MSHPINT%
Brian Williams
North Carolina State
50565660
56636315
44505010
38444415
Outlook: Williams is a hard worker who is below the radar of some scouts, but should be an above-average defensive back in this league for a number of years.
Tecmo comparison: Dwayne Woodruff
