2002 Rookie Draft Class

Tight Ends
Name
MSHPBCREC%
Jeremy Shockey
Miami (FL)
4438505660
5044506315
3831505025
Outlook: Shockey is an extremely talented receiver and a rare talent at the tight end position with his ability to stretch the field. He is prone to being a bit temperamental when things aren't going his way, and is hence viewed as somewhat of a clubhouse cancer. If you get Shockey the ball with regularity, he should put up huge numbers.
Tecmo comparison: Jay Novacek
Name
MSHPBCREC%
Daniel Graham
Colorado
3156504470
3863505020
2550503810
Outlook: Graham is a decent receiver but is unlikely to stretch the field in the running game. Where he really excels is in the blocking game, where he will rank among the best tight ends in the league. With time and effort Graham could develop his receiving skills and become a multi-dimensional threat.
Tecmo comparison: Rodney Holman
Name
MSHPBCREC%
Jerramy Stevens
Washington
3138504460
3844505010
2531503830
Outlook: Stevens is a similar prospect to Graham but lacks the blocking ability that should make Graham a starter in this league. Stevens could provide a good spark off the bench and could develop into a dependable red-zone receiver.
Tecmo comparison: Eric Green
Name
MSHPBCREC%
Doug Jolley
BYU
2550503860
3156504420
1944503120
Outlook: Jolley has just enough talent to weasel his way onto a WTF roster but not enough to stay there very long. Look for Jolley to be drafted in the fifth round.
Tecmo comparison: Pat Beach
Name
MSHPBCREC%
Matt Schobel
TCU
3838504460
4444505015
3131503825
Outlook: The brother of defensive lineman Aaron Schobel, Matt Schobel was a premier pass-catching tight end at TCU who brings good speed and decent hands to the WTF. He is rather inept as a blocker, so a role in the run-and-shoot offense might be more Schobel's style.
Tecmo comparison: Ron Hall
Name
MSHPBCREC%
Chris Baker
Michigan State
2556633160
3163633825
1950632515
Outlook: Baker is considered a good blocker but a major project as a receiver. He can run short routes but going deep is out of his usual comfort zone. If he reaches his upside Baker could be a very attractive player. For now, a WTF roster spot is in major jeopardy.
Tecmo comparison: Arthur Cox
Name
MSHPBCREC%
Justin Peelle
Oregon
3144503870
3850504415
2538503115
Outlook: Justin Peelle performed well in college at Oregon, collecting receptions from Joey Harrington en route to becoming one of his favorite targets. He'll catch a TD pass or two each season for whoever drafts him.
Tecmo comparison: Gary Wilkins
Name
MSHPBCREC%
Randy McMichael
Georgia
3144505660
3850506320
2538505020
Outlook: McMichael is one of the premier pass catching tight ends in this draft due to his excellent hands, but he doesn't have blazing speed to outrun defenders. That said, he is good at finding holes in the zone and making clutch receptions. A mid-round selection would be suitable.
Tecmo comparison: Eric Sievers
Name
MSHPBCREC%
Darnell Sanders
Ohio State
2538503180
1931502520
Outlook: Sanders doesn't have what it takes to be a WTF player. He isn't likely to be drafted.
Tecmo comparison: Cap Boso
Name
MSHPBCREC%
John Owens
Notre Dame
2569501960
3175502520
1963501320
Outlook: John Owens is just about strictly a blocking tight end, but he does that job exceedingly well. Just don't throw him the ball.
Tecmo comparison: James Thornton
Name
MSHPBCREC%
Terry Jones
Alabama
2538503170
3144503820
1931502510
Outlook: Jones is practice-squad material who is a backup at best. Look elsewhere for legitimate help at the tight end position.
Tecmo comparison: Mike Dyal
Name
MSHPBCREC%
Robert Royal
LSU
3150503860
3856504425
2544503115
Outlook: Royal is very average in all facets of the tight end game. He won't cause problems in the run game and he won't make a name for himself as a receiver. This should leave him as a second-string performer.
Tecmo comparison: Derrick Walker
Name
MSHPBCREC%
Ryan Hannam
Northern Iowa
2544503170
3150503810
1938502520
Outlook: Hannam is quite simply not very good.
Tecmo comparison: Mike Jones
Name
MSHPBCREC%
Jeb Putzier
Boise State
3838503860
4444504420
3131503120
Outlook: Putzier looks to have some ability as a pass catcher but is limited by his poor blocking.
Tecmo comparison: Clarence Kay
Name
MSHPBCREC%
John Gilmore
Penn State
2550502570
3156503115
1944501915
Outlook: Gilmore is a fine blocker, although unexceptional in that facet. As a receiver he is rather poor. A practice squad shot is probably the best Gilmore will be able to manage.
Tecmo comparison: Jonathan Hayes
Name
MSHPBCREC%
Bryan Fletcher
UCLA
1944503170
2550503810
1938502520
Outlook: Fletcher will not add much of anything to any WTF team. He can make the occasional reception and block a little.
Tecmo comparison: Pete Metzelaars
